Tonight’s episode was so uninteresting to me I really don’t even want to discuss it much, but I do have something I want to get off my chest.
I’m feeling hugely disappointed with Zelena’s big reveal right now. For awhile there I was actually quite pleased with her as a villain…right up until It Ain’t Easy Being Green wherein we got Ultrafast Backstory of IDGAF and discovered absolutely 0 believable motivation for her character. Tonight’s episode hardly helped. Villains who spend entire monologues on the exposition of their dastardly schemes (“ain’t I a stinker?”) just bore the hell out of me.
I wound up thinking a bit, I think it was thechloris who pointed out what I can now only assume to be an accidental lack of children in most of the post-curse scenes, which when paired with her fixation on Snow and Charming’s baby was very creepy and very promising as a potential plot point.
I know there’s quite a few of us that have been hoping for some pick up of the Ogre Wars plotline from season 1, all the children that were being trucked off, supposedly to the front lines to fight a war that they clearly had the means to stop without them. And I really had my hopes up that this might be it, that maybe, just maybe Zelena had some tie into this, either with the ogres themselves or with the missing children.
I even entertained for a minute that maybe, just maybe, Zelena had actually been one of those children, say a childhood friend of Baelfire that a newly minted Dark One helped rescue from the Ogre Wars (really I just wanted a villain that turned out to be someone that had been on the show before and was NOT someone’s twelfth cousin thrice removed).
And then the big reveal came and whoops, no, just another entry in the family tree, long lost big sister Zelena
Brady Mills come to whine because “Regina, Regina, Regina!”
I am so monumentally underwhelmed because once again the fanbase managed to string together a better plot idea than the actual writers did. What. The. Fuck.
